First, thank you for all the responds towards my commissions journal on DeviantArt. Unfortunately, I can only receive paper-cutting commissions from Indonesia because paper-cutting needs to be shipped and so far I’m still unable to send my original work worldwide.
On this blog, I would like to give a little more explanation about my paper-cutting commissions. I have already posted some samples and it’d be better if I give more samples because I think this kind of work still a bit uncommon in Indonesia. So… here you go! This is what I made last night.
Maybe some of you are wondering…. what is that?
Well… it is not a drawing for sure, even though it looks like a two-color-digital drawing or whatever. It is a paper that is cut into a certain pattern design. This pictures below might give you clearer information.
This is how it really looked like in real life. I’ve already cut the left side of the paper, while you still can see the sketch I made on the uncut-right-side.

THIS is what you will receive if you ask me to make a paper-cutting commission. I made this pattern on concorde paper 90 gsm A4 size.
The best way to display paper-cutting is putting it on a plain colored paper and framing it. This piece is done on a light-colored paper. So it would be very lovely if you put it on dark-colored paper before you frame it. But of course you can do it your way with putting it on textured paper, paper with motif, pattern, or whatever you like.
This is what happened when I put it on different colored papers.
To sum it up, this is what I am going to do when I receive paper-cutting commissions:
- Please give me a clear description about the design you want. It can be a theme, a character or typography. Please note that the final result will be more like silhouette, so I can’t make a detail character or person with a certain hair color, eyes, etc. It would be very helpful if you tell my what things or stuff you wanna put on it. For example, if you wanna make a Halloween themed paper-cutting, maybe you can ask me to make a pattern with pumpkin, ghost, mummy, or anything you want on it.
- For typography, you can make a quotation or greeting like happy birthday, happy wedding, Merry Christmas, etc.
Example: if you wanna say happy birthday to your mum, please tell me what pattern you wanna put amongst the letter. If she likes cooking, maybe I can put cooking tools, pan, spoon, fork or knife pattern on it.
- I will send you the sketch first. If you’re satisfied with it and there is no revision anymore, please make the payment. As soon as I receive the money, I will make the paper-cutting and send it to your home.
